When on Friday last week an appeal was sent out that Margaretta wa Gacheru urgently needed blood donation, the arts community, more so those in theatre, quickly shared the word around and enlisted all the help they could muster.
The respected arts scholar, theatre critic, media consultant and current face of the KITFest as well as member of the KTA (Kenya Theatre Awards) Jury had been admitted to hospital and urgently needed surgery, which in turn necessitated the urgent blood appeal.
The surgery, initially scheduled for Sunday, was moved to Monday afternoon as the drive intensified.
Thanks to many who have replied to my request for donations. I think I’m OK because Nairobi Hospital has some and will share hopefully soon. Thanks to you all for your caring concern. Much love to you all,” the venerable thespian shared on her Facebook account before being wheeled in on Monday.
What followed was an hours-long procedure that was successful.
Currently recuperating, Margaretta is in high spirits and can’t wait to get back on her feet, doing what she has known best for over four decades; enjoying, analysing and critiquing arts and theatre.
We at Sanaa Post wish her the very best.
