Cults, pyramid schemes, you’ve heard these before but please don’t change your browser tab. I am going somewhere with this.
Picture the aforementioned, but in a university setting and a lecture at the helm. That is the story behind Shadows, a play written and directed by Manuel Chindia and Bernnie.
Before we get to the location and ticket details, let’s dive deeper to the issue at hand.
Manuel Chindia shares his time to enlighten us on the foundation behind Shadows, with the one question being, is it a matter of lacking a sense of belonging that pushes one to join a cult?
Amidst societal pressures, one might develop a desire to be a part of a community, lest it stems out of desperation, any group is considered whichever the belief.
With the digital age, to be sucked in to any belief system is becoming easier everyday, so who’s not to say that the internet itself is not a hub for different cults. Manuel Chindia emphasizes this analogy as the ‘collective mind’.
The analogy boils down to the need for everyone to prioritize their own principles and cultivate empathy to the people close to them who might be deeply affected by the aftermath of joining such fads.
Besides the change from inside, external factors surrounding religious organizations might need a turn around. How about regulations for inaugurating religious organizations set by a credible branch from the government? What do you think?
Shadows will be taking place at Zetech University, TRC on November 30, Saturday, 3 pm to 5 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm. Grab your tickets via MPESA Pochi la Biashara 0712621446
