Nairobi, once, was christened the capital of broken hearts. Apparently, when people found out you were from Nairobi they would ask, “Are you married or do you live in Nairobi?”

Stories from the Capital of Broken Hearts is a show exploring the dynamics of love in Nairobi. The stories and poems crafted are intergenerational conversations between the young and the old.

(Left to Right) Wanjiku Gicheru and Mufasa the Poet

Romantic love is not the only form of love that we have in our lives, thank goodness or some of us would be doomed. We love our children, and they love us back, sometimes. Sometimes we let them down, other times children let parents down. It is a complicated space.

This poetic play explores the haunting we experience by the love we wished for or lost, from lovers, friends, brothers or sisters, fathers, mothers, even from those who succumbed to addiction or died way too young.

(Left to Right) Wanjiku Gicheru, Mufasa the Poet, Mudamba Mudamba and Sitawa Namwalie

Penned masterfully by Sitawa Namwalie. She goes on to be the producer and director, with the assistance of Mudamba Mudamba. The cast is a great mixture of youthful beginnings and experience.

Sitawa and Mudamba represent the older generations’ love, nostalgia and hangovers. Alongside, Mufasa the Poet and Wanjiku Gicheru who represent the youth on fire with their red hot love.

The cast is set to showcase a memorable performance, each performer connecting deeply to the meaning, space and purpose of this show that goes beyond theatre, each sitting at the core of their lived experiences and vulnerabilities.

Stories from the Capital of Broken Hearts will be staged at Braeburn Theatre on Friday 23th February through Sunday 25th February. Nyakua Tikiti yako SASA HIVI via http://www.kenyabuzz.com
