The Female Filmmakers Forum is thrilled to announce a groundbreaking partnership that marks a significant milestone in our mission to support women in the film industry. Today, we officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with FIDA Kenya, a leading organization dedicated to championing the rights and welfare of women and girls across the country.
This collaboration represents more than just a formal agreement but a commitment to creating lasting change within Kenya’s film industry. FIDA Kenya brings decades of experience in advocating for women’s rights, making it the ideal partner to help us address the unique challenges faced by female filmmakers.
What This Means for Our Community
Through this partnership, all FIDA members will gain access to two critical support services:
Legal Aid Services: Professional legal guidance to help navigate contracts, intellectual property rights, workplace disputes, and other legal matters that filmmakers commonly encounter.
Psychosocial Support: Counseling and wellness services designed to address the mental health and emotional challenges that can arise in the demanding film industry environment.
Creating Safer Spaces in Film
While creative and rewarding, the film industry can present unique obstacles for women, from workplace harassment to unequal opportunities and financial challenges. With FIDA Kenya’s expertise and support network, our members will be better equipped to handle these challenges while focusing on what they do best: creating compelling stories that matter.
This partnership represents our commitment to ensuring that female filmmakers in Kenya don’t have to navigate their careers alone. By providing access to professional legal and psychological support, FIDA is creating an environment where women can thrive both professionally and personally.
