The debut of Boma Film Nights was, without doubt, a success. The night provided an intimate and cinematic experience, bridging the gap between filmmakers and audiences while fostering a sense of community around Kenyan film.

From the get-go, I would be fair to assess it as a great, nicely conceptualised and deftly put-together by an able originator.

In an interview, curator Nice Githinji, reveals that the inaugural event was a success that even surpassed her expectations; the turnout, the demographic and the overall energy. It was night for professionals and creative entrepreneurs’, creative industry enthusiasts, couples, aspiring filmmakers as well as content creators and influencers.

She also revealed that many attendees expressed their surprise at the existence of such high-quality Kenyan films and were eager to explore more local content.

Despite the success, the opening night faced some challenges which included delayed start caused by technical glitches that were swiftly resolved. Additionally, the venue experienced overcapacity issues due to the unexpected high turnout.

However, Nice has assured that, going forward and with the lessons learned, measures have been put in place to prevent similar challenges. The overwhelming positive audience engagement and strong attendance confirmed the event’s potential for long-term sustainability and growth.

With a solid foundation, Boma Film Nights is well on its way to becoming a cultural event for Kenyan cinema. So, what should we expect on Thursday?

As we wind up February, the month of love, Boma Film Nights is set to deliver an unforgettable screening on Thursday, February 27. The curator has carefully selected two captivating Kenyan romantic films in keeping with the mood.

Morning After, starring Foi Wambui and Charlie Karumi, and Boda Love featuring Mungai Duncan Murunyu and Greer Dale Foulkes.

If you’ve wondered what romance looks like through the lens of Kenyan filmmakers, this is your chance to experience it first-hand.

The night promises an enchanting atmosphere filled with creative energy, a special meet-and-greet session with the cast and crew, fun games and a DJ spinning exclusive Kenyan music to keep the vibes alive.
