The iconic McMillan Memorial Library will from today morning host the maiden African Book Fair by Soma Nami Books, which will run until Saturday August 5, 2023. With an offering of over 10,000 books and 2000 titles from over 50 African countries, this inaugural event by Soma Nami Books is set to become Kenya’s biggest showcase and platform for sale of African books, bringing in titles from all across Anglophone, Arabophone, Francophone and Lusophone Africa at discounted prices.
The fair will also showcase African literature across multiple genres, including fiction, non-fiction, children’s books, young adults’ books, poetry, coffee table books, reference books and personal development books.
This is an exciting moment for us as Soma Nami Books as we not only get to share our diverse African catalogue with readers, but we are reinforcing the message that we, as Africans, are the main characters in our continent, and here are million stories to prove it. We are changing that narrative, one book, one story at a time,”
The co-founder and director of Soma Nami Books, Muthoni Muiruri, says of the Book Fair.
Alongside promoting African literature and authors, the fair will provide a platform that gives writers the visibility they deserve and opening up their works of literature to wider audiences, promoting the culture of reading and appreciating African literary art.
Founded on the premise and promise of promoting Pan-Africanism through literature, Soma Nami Books, a Pan-African Bookstore based in Nairobi, has since its inception in 2021, been on a mission to increase visibility, accessibility and readership of African books across varied genres. The bookstore offers a vast and eclectic selection of books from the continent.
The African Book Fair by Soma Nami Books, which is a first of its kind in the country, aims to showcase this vast variety of African books from across genres and across countries.
