Last night at the Kenya National Theatre was a monumental occasion. The Kenya International Theatre Festival celebrated its 10th anniversary of excellence in theatre. It was also a tribute to the path we follow and a commitment to a vibrant future in capable hands.
From spoken word performances by Divine to foot-stomping music by the KCC Choir, the audience sat in anticipation of the big reveal.
Face of the Festival
Ngūgī wa Thiong’o is a name remembered by millions of Kenyans, serving as a testament that art can revolutionize future generations.
Renowned for his impactful plays like Ngahika Ndeda (I Will Marry When I Want) and The River Between, Ngūgī Wa Thiong’o has made a significant mark on the theatre scene for years, inspiring generations with his honesty and courage. His remarkable story of writing Caitaani Mutharaba Inī (Devil on the Cross) on tissue paper while in prison, among other notable experiences that could fill an entire piece, highlights his immense talent and why he is so deserving of the recognition as the Face of KITFest 2025.
This action by the Kenya Cultural Centre honors the individuals who paved the way for every theater practitioner to boldly embark on their courageous journeys.
