Miss Trudy’s Unlicensed Content Creation Saga

Digital Creator Miss Trudy uploaded a video on her social media platforms where she and her allies were prevented from recording content at an airport they were in.

In the video, Trudy calls out the security at the airport who went ahead and summoned the police. This in turn caused an altercation between Trudy, security, and the police, as the cameras rolled.

In the wake of this incident, Kenyans took to social media to discuss the importance of creatives, digital creators, in particular, being aware of the terms and conditions of filming in public spaces.

Ignorance among young and upcoming filmmakers regarding filming procedures is one of the issues raised online. Most creatives regarded Trudy’s video as a false sense of entitlement.

Just as the Drone regulations were enforced after a Wayward Drone flew on top of a media house with no permission, some are afraid regulations on content creation might be put in place as a solution amid the incident.

Additionally, content creators in the country, especially the young and upcoming were urged to equip themselves with information regarding the terms and conditions of filming in public spaces so as not to get on the wrong side of the government.

Many initiatives have been put in place to help sensitize digital creators about their rights and equip them with knowledge and in-depth information on content creation. One such initiative is Zynergy Point Content Creation Workshop facilitated by the company’s CEO, Ellsey Okatch. They held their first workshop on April 1st, 2023 with the likes of; Azziad Nasenya, Martin Githinji, Joy Kendi, Ced Nzomo, and Enos Olik sharing insightful information regarding content creation.

Zynergy will be holding its second workshop on June 3rd, 2023, a golden chance for content creators to be accountable and responsible for their digital creation skills by equipping themselves with the knowledge necessary to grow their craft and brand.
