A year’s training, in the careful hands of seasoned industry professionals, was the journey that culminated in a successful Film Fupi Graduation Ceremony last weekend.
Curated by the Youth Film Platform Africa and funded by the American Embassy, with support from the Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) and Kenya Film Commission (KFC), the graduation ceremony was showcased with the filming of three short movies namely, Ifikie Gavana, Maviding and Ripples of Change produced by students neighbourhoods in the vast Eastlands area of Nairobi.
It’s been the most wonderful one-year journey with 36 wonderful, young aspiring filmmakers from Eastlands acquiring practical and professional skills in filmmaking. What made it all so beautiful was the support they received from seasoned film industry professionals and stakeholders,” Rachael Wainaina, founder of Youth Film Platform, noted.
With an emphasis on film as an educational medium, the films revolved around the themes of water conservation, pollution, and youth employment, all issues that form part of everyday conversation in Eastlands. The chance to document such storylines with a medium they love was a big highlight for the students, evident from their beaming smiles and zeal during the performances at the ceremony.
With the students now open to traversing the industry, much more is expected from this fresh talent and hearty congratulations to Film Fupi.
