Development, improvement of standards and professionalism amongst its members through promotion of intellectual property by rights within Kenya and in particular among performers through sensitization, education, and empowerment of Kenyan performers; preservation and expansion of work and training opportunities and furtherment of the general welfare of its members. This is the main objective of the KENYA ACTORS‘ GUILD derived from its constitution.
Founded by Lupita Nyongo, Peter King Mwania, and Elly Yang Omukubi in 2008, the Kenya Actors’ Guild set out to create a platform that would record the challenges and achievements of Kenyan Actors so as to ensure progressive victory. Since then, the guild got recognized as the space where the welfare of Actors all over the country were guarded and held with high regard.
However, in 2019, after the election of an interim office, the pandemic that hit the following year hampered any plans of growth the guild had. Since then to date nothing much has happened.
Regarding this, a group of concerned members held an informal meeting on 8th April 2023 at Kenya National Theatre affirming that the Guild needed to wake up from its slumber to effectively serve its members. The group elected a transition committee consisting of the following;
- Peter Kawa
- Nyokabi Macharia
- Ian Mbugua
- Tash Mitambo
- Victor Muniafu
- William Mwangi
- Sarah Atieno
- Martin Githinji
- Nduta Sialo
As directed by the guild’s constitution, the transition committee resolved to engage the members to petition the office to call for an Extraordinary General Meeting otherwise known as a Special General Meeting (SGM) to discuss pivotal matters one being a establishing a system to vet members interested in running for office to ensure a smooth transition.
