If you are a theatre enthusiast, then you must have heard his name mentioned on various occasions in the theatre frontier. A stage pantologist, whether Acting, Directing, Producing, or Writing, he is indeed an indestructible theatric force.
Through his Theatre Production Company PREVAIL PRESENTS, MARTIN KIGONDU has with no doubt brought to his audience some of the most gripping stories ever showcased from his One Man Play SUPERNOVA to the soul-stirring BLESSED BE THE FRUIT of which due to high acclaim, are coming back to the Theatre near you.
SUPERNOVA, follows Frank, a popular radio presenter on a short leave to attend a personal emergency. It highlights his mind space as he chases the highs that come with a busy career and the lows that are survived often in silence, sieving through a love that was, could have been and is. Exploring themes around ambition, love, grief, solitude, and mental fortitude with both heart and wit. Frank’s account weaves in other characters and perspectives in the 75-minute intimate and forthright performance, giving the actor the canvas for a tapestry of different personas and emotions.
Having run in multiple localities around the country from Nairobi’s Kenya National Theatre (2nd May 2022 Ukumbi Mdogo, 1st June 2022 Ukumbi Mdogo, 20th October 2022 Ukumbi Mdogo, 1st November KitFest), Lower Kabete’s Zen Garden (6th May 2022) to Nanyuki’s Blueflame (5th November 2022), SUPERNOVA will once again be staged at Little Theatre Mombasa on May 13th 2023, Eldoret KVDA Auditorium on May 28th 2023 and at the Kenya National Theatre (Main Auditorium) on May 31st 2023.
Featuring revered actresses, Lorna Lemi, Marianne Nungo and Hellena Waithera, BLESSED BE THE FRUIT follows a psychiatrist, Dr. Martha (Hellena Waithera) who tries to get to the bottom of a peculiar case, called by the court to investigate the novice nun, Agnes (Lorna Lemi) who had been found blooded, unconscious but nearby a dead baby, presumably her own.
Following its glorious run at the Kenya National Theatre on December 2nd 2022, and March 17th, 18th, 19th 2023, BLESSED BE THE FRUIT will apex another run at Le Rustique, Nanyuki this Sunday 30th of April.
