Skidmark Studios has officially announced development on its highly anticipated limited TV series, The Rebel Intelligence Trilogy. Created by Amani Mwasera, written by Karuiru Karithii, and executive produced by Ivy Muiruri alongside Gabriel Mukuya Nganga (Co-CEO of Skidmark Studios), the project is already stirring industry buzz.
While details remain closely guarded, early rumors suggest that the series will dive deep into the complexities of schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, and memory control, told through multiple perspectives across an expansive narrative. At its core lies a mysterious entity orchestrating the worlds inhabited by the characters—an ambitious exploration of identity, control, and power.
The project also promises high-octane stunts and cinematic spectacle, balanced with grounded storytelling and an emotionally raw core.
It is rumored that a powerhouse cast is in early talks to join the project, including Lorna Lemi (Lulu), Michael “Kael” Njihia (Country Queen), and Basil Mungai (Prefects, MTV Shuga). They may star alongside creator Amani Mwasera, with additional talent from Prefects and Shamba La Wanyama.
Mwasera revealed that the story draws inspiration from his personal life experiences as well as cinematic and artistic heroes, noting Emmanuel Mugo as both an actor and the direct inspiration for one of the trilogy’s key characters. Together with Karithii, Mwasera also cites stylistic and thematic influence from Japanese anime such as Akira and Ghost in the Shell, as well as films like Inception.
Building on the project’s layered approach, Mwasera has leaned into the aesthetics and narrative sensibilities of video games, referencing Cyberpunk 2077, the Call of Duty franchise, Evil Within, and Dead Space as tonal benchmarks.

Currently in deep development, Skidmark Studios is preparing to seek strategic partnerships once the first draft of a short film, intended to introduce audiences to the Rebel Intelligence universe, is complete.
