Often when you go through the gates of a theatre and comfortably take your seat inside the hall, you usually have no idea what you’re in for, but this was more than that. It was a daring multi-disciplinary, experimental theatre piece and then some.

For me, it was the first time in Sarakasi Dome, and Whispers of Power made it an evening forever etched in my memory.

Produced by renowned musician Liboi who was also the creative director, Whispers of Power leaned on artists’ well-being, focusing on what stirs up inside their minds and hearts, well-executed from monologues by one of the show’s directors and writer, Wakio Mzenge, and backed up by choreography performed by Maulid Owino and aerialists; Ann Silks and Michael Munga.

Don’t get it twisted, it wasn’t all gloom and doom, as would be the initial impression of most when that topic arises. It was about recognizing the power artists’ have in different avenues of their profession and lives.

One that spoke to me was the power to say NO, no to things that only act as chains in one’s existence and not give in to anything that might compromise my art and integrity.

Liboi and her talented band members- Komora, Salome Waithera, Collins Obwar, and Henry Ngugi– brought the house down with thunderous tracks, tunes that made it futile to resist bursting a move.

The chance to dance with colleagues, my beloved actors, is something worth reliving again and again.

Asante sana to everyone involved in making such a vibrant piece. Kaedition kengine pris.
